Why Kindle covers disappear
When you sideload an ebook to your Kindle via USB, the cover image is embedded in the file. But Amazon’s cover thumbnail system doesn’t always extract it correctly. The result: your library shows a blank placeholder instead of the cover you carefully picked.
The same thing happens with EPUB files sent through Send to Kindle. The cover might display inside the book, but the thumbnail in your library grid stays blank.
This tool fixes both problems.
How it works
Fix Kindle Ebook Cover scans your Kindle’s book database — a file buried in the system partition — and rebuilds the cover thumbnails from the actual cover images inside each ebook file. It works at the filesystem level, which means it needs you to connect your Kindle via USB.
The tool comes in three forms:

- Command-line version — for scripting and automation
- Jailbreak plugin — integrates with KUAL for on-device fixing
Step-by-step: GUI version
- Download the tool from the GitHub releases page
- Connect your Kindle to your computer via USB
- Launch the tool — it should auto-detect your Kindle
- Click “Fix Covers” and wait
- Safely eject your Kindle
The process takes about 30 seconds for a library of 200 books. When you unplug, the covers appear in your library.
Before you start
Make sure your Kindle is in USB mode and your computer recognizes it as a drive. If you’re on a Mac, you might need Android File Transfer or OpenMTP installed, especially for newer Kindle models like the Scribe.
The tool only modifies cover thumbnails — it doesn’t touch your actual books, notes, or reading progress. It’s safe to use anytime, and you can run it as many times as you need.
