How to push EPUB directly to your Kindle email address

Since 2022, Amazon has supported EPUB files through Send to Kindle — but not the way you might expect. You can’t copy an EPUB to your Kindle via USB and open it. You CAN email it. Here’s exactly how to do it.

Find your Kindle email address

Every Kindle gets a unique email address from Amazon. Anything sent to this address gets delivered to that specific device.

  1. Go to amazon.com/myk
  2. Click Devices → select your Kindle
  3. The email address looks like [email protected]
  4. Note it down — you’ll need it in the next step

Approve your sender email

Amazon only accepts files from approved email addresses. This prevents spam.

  1. On the same page, go to Preferences → Personal Document Settings
  2. Scroll to Approved Personal Document E-mail List
  3. Add your personal email address
  4. Click Add Address

Only emails from addresses on this list get through. Add any address you might use (Gmail, Outlook, work email).

Send the EPUB

There are three ways to send:

Email (simplest): Compose a new email to your Kindle address. Attach the EPUB file. Leave the subject and body blank. Hit send. The book appears in your Kindle library within 2-5 minutes.

Send to Kindle website: Go to amazon.com/sendtokindle, drag your EPUB, select your device, click Send. No email app needed.

Send to Kindle app (desktop): Install Send to Kindle for PC/Mac. Right-click any EPUB file → Send to Kindle. The app uploads it directly.

What happens behind the scenes

Amazon’s servers convert your EPUB to KF8 (Kindle Format 8) during the upload process. The original EPUB stays on Amazon’s servers as your cloud backup. The converted KF8 version is what you actually read on your device.

This means the formatting WILL change slightly. Most EPUBs convert cleanly, but books with heavy CSS, embedded fonts, or complex layouts might lose some formatting. If you care about pixel-perfect rendering, use Calibre’s local AZW3 conversion instead.

File size limit: 200MB

Send to Kindle accepts files up to 200MB. For EPUBs larger than that — textbooks, comic omnibuses, illustrated reference books — you’ll need to use Calibre and USB transfer instead.
